The address sits in an order, the customer never hears from you again, and the next campaign goes to the same generic list as everyone else.<\/p>\n<p>MailUp for WooCommerce is built around a different idea: the list a customer ends up in should depend on what they actually did \u2014 which page they were reading, which product they bought. This guide walks through the configuration, based on what the plugin actually does.<\/p>\n<h2>What the plugin does<\/h2>\n<p>The plugin connects your WordPress\/WooCommerce site to MailUp and handles three separate flows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Registration opt-in<\/strong> \u2014 a newsletter checkbox in the WordPress registration form, with the new user added to a MailUp list and group.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Subscription buttons<\/strong> \u2014 a MailUp sign-up button or form placed on the post types you choose, each pointing to its own list.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Post-purchase assignment<\/strong> \u2014 when an order is marked as completed, the customer is added to the MailUp list and group you associate with each product in it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>All three feed the same MailUp account, so the segments you build in MailUp reflect real behaviour on your site.<\/p>\n<h2>Connecting to MailUp<\/h2>\n<p>The General tab starts with the <strong>Endpoint \/ Console url<\/strong> field. This is the address of your MailUp console \u2014 the plugin uses it to talk to the MailUp API, so it must match the console your account belongs to.<\/p>\n<p>If you are not sure where to find it, the field links directly to the MailUp API credentials documentation. Getting this right is the prerequisite for everything else: without a valid endpoint, no subscription will reach your account.<\/p>\n<h2>Newsletter opt-in at registration<\/h2>\n<p>The second part of the General tab configures what happens when someone registers on your site.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Registration form<\/strong> \u2014 adds a newsletter checkbox to the WordPress and WooCommerce registration forms. The box is ticked by default; users who untick it are not subscribed.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Confirm<\/strong> \u2014 sends the MailUp registration confirmation email, so subscriptions from the registration form (and, in the premium version, from checkout) follow MailUp&#8217;s double opt-in flow.<\/li>\n<li><strong>MailUp List ID<\/strong> \u2014 the list new registrants are added to.<\/li>\n<li><strong>MailUp Group ID<\/strong> \u2014 optionally, a specific group inside that list.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The list and group IDs are the numbers MailUp assigns to each list and group in your console. Using a group rather than only a list is what lets you distinguish, for example, customers who registered on their own from those who arrived through a campaign.<\/p>\n<p>The premium version adds the same option to the <strong>checkout form<\/strong>, using the same list and group, with a further setting to have the checkbox enabled by default \u2014 useful when the newsletter is part of your standard communication and you want the opt-in to be the natural choice rather than an afterthought.<\/p>\n<h2>Subscription buttons on your content<\/h2>\n<p>The Subscription Button tab controls the sign-up elements placed on your posts and pages.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Post types<\/strong> \u2014 a multi-select of all public post types. Only the types you pick get the button, so you can put it on blog posts without touching product pages, or vice versa.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Button position<\/strong> \u2014 before the content, after the content, or custom. The custom option requires the <code>[mailup-subscribe]<\/code> shortcode, which lets you place the button exactly where you want inside the post.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Guest form<\/strong> \u2014 for visitors who are not logged in, either show the WordPress login\/registration form or ask only for name and email address, without creating an account. The <em>Email only<\/em> option is part of the premium version and removes a step for people who just want the content.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Privacy<\/strong> \u2014 the page holding your privacy policy, linked from the subscription form (premium).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There is also an anchor shortcode, <code>[mailup-subscribe-ancor]<\/code>, for linking directly to the subscription form from elsewhere on the page.<\/p>\n<h2>Per-post settings<\/h2>\n<p>Each post or page with the button gets its own meta box, and this is where the real segmentation happens:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Activate<\/strong> \u2014 turns the button on for that specific post.<\/li>\n<li><strong>MailUp List ID<\/strong> \u2014 the list this particular post subscribes to. A guide about a specific topic can feed a topic-specific list instead of your generic newsletter.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Button text<\/strong> \u2014 the label on the button, e.g. &#8220;Get the free chapter&#8221;.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Response text<\/strong> \u2014 the thank-you message shown after subscribing.<\/li>\n<li><strong>MailUp Group ID<\/strong> \u2014 a specific group inside the list (premium).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Description text<\/strong> \u2014 a line of copy shown before the button (premium).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Redirect<\/strong> \u2014 a page to send the user to after subscribing, instead of leaving them on the same post (premium).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This is the part that turns a generic newsletter into lead generation: a post about a product can offer something specific in exchange for the address, and the subscriber lands in the list that matches their interest.<\/p>\n<h2>Post-purchase: lists and groups per product<\/h2>\n<p>The product meta box is where the post-purchase flow is configured. On each WooCommerce product you set a <strong>MailUp List ID<\/strong> and a <strong>MailUp Group ID<\/strong>. When the order reaches the <em>Completed<\/em> status, the billing email is added to that list and group; if the contact is already in the list, only the group is updated.<\/p>\n<p>This is the mechanism behind behavioural segmentation. Instead of one list of &#8220;customers&#8221;, you end up with a list where the group tells you what each customer bought \u2014 which is exactly what you need to send a relevant follow-up, a cross-sell, or an onboarding sequence for a specific product.<\/p>\n<p>Both fields are part of the premium version.<\/p>\n<h2>Building the workflows in MailUp<\/h2>\n<p>The plugin&#8217;s job ends when the contact lands in the right list and group. What happens next is configured in MailUp itself, and this is where the structure pays off.<\/p>\n<p>Because each product maps to its own group, you can target your campaigns and automations at that group: a welcome sequence for new registrants, a post-purchase follow-up for buyers of a specific product, a re-engagement message for a group that has gone quiet. The plugin does not send these emails \u2014 MailUp does \u2014 but it makes sure the right people are in the right place when you send them.<\/p>\n<p>The same logic applies before the purchase: a visitor who subscribed from a product-related post is already in a group that identifies their interest, so a pre-sell sequence can address them specifically.<\/p>\n<h2>Free and premium versions<\/h2>\n<p>The free version on WordPress.org covers the core workflow: the newsletter checkbox in the registration form, the MailUp confirmation email, the list and group for registrants, subscription buttons on chosen post types with per-post list and button text, and the shortcodes for custom placement.<\/p>\n<p>The premium version adds the checkout opt-in (with default-enabled option), the name-and-email guest form, the privacy page link, the description text and redirect per post, the group per post, and the list and group per product for post-purchase assignment.<\/p>\n<h2>Conclusion<\/h2>\n<p>A newsletter is only as useful as the segmentation behind it.
