3. PHP Microservice — Performs the actual SOAP calls to the Ministry of Culture’s web services. This separation is necessary because the government’s SOAP implementation requires specific certificate handling that works best with PHP’s native SOAP client.
4. Shopify Metafields — All merchant settings (certificates, category mappings, billing status) are stored as Shopify Metafields, ensuring data persistence even on ephemeral cloud environments.

Voucher Validation Flow

Here is how a typical transaction works:

1. The customer adds products to their cart and proceeds to checkout.
2. In the cart (or checkout on Shopify Plus), they enter their Carte Cultura voucher code in the dedicated widget.
3. The app sends the code to the Ministry’s SOAP service for validation (CHECK operation).
4. If valid, the app retrieves the voucher’s remaining balance and applies it as a discount via Shopify Functions.
5. The customer completes the payment for any remaining amount.
6. When the order is paid, the app sends a CONFIRM request to the Ministry to consume the voucher credit.
